Move of the Match
The Move of the Match this week goes to Augie B from the Rooks (Black) for finding an excellent tactic!
Let’s check out the game. It's Black to move—what would you play?

Black to move.
Let’s consider what Black’s ideal play would be. Black would love to take on f2 with the knight.

Which would fork White’s king and rook.

If only White’s knight on h3 wasn’t defending f2!

But Black has found a solution to this problem. Have you spotted it yet?

Black can eliminate the defender of f2!
White doesn’t have a good response to this. The best move in this position is actually to recapture the bishop on h3 with gxh3, allowing Black to land the Nxf2 fork.
In the game, White avoided the fork with Re2.

Black can now proceed with Bg4+, saving the bishop and continuing the attack.

Great work by Augie here to spot the initial capture of White’s knight on h3! This is a perfect example of a situation where eliminating the defender of a key square can be a path to victory.

Thank you again to all of our players for continuing to make the Rookly Summer League such a blast! If there’s anything that you need help with please feel free to get in touch with Coach Lucas at Lucas@rookly.com.
